Altuzarra AW’12 – Womenswear

by Adam the Editor

Corto Maltese, the protagonist of an adult French comic from the sixties and seventies, made for the starting point at Altuzarra for AW’12. The collection was complex and highly suited for editorial.

A real sense of luxury came through in the clothes with embellished detail showing off the handiwork of those involved in putting together a collection that makes both a statement about the wearer as well as the designer.

I loved the chunky knitwear as well as the simply tailored jackets and coats that have become such a necessity for the harsh, cold winters many of us now experience. The colour palette was fairly exotic for an Autumn/Winter collection with an eclectic vibe emanating from the use of print and texture.

I wouldn’t say that this collection appeals exactly to my style but it definitely ticks a few boxes when it comes to creativity and individuality. I love a designer that does something different; not sticking to the norm of the season. With this collection, Altuzarra has at least achieved something that many NYFW designers don’t.
