Spijkers en Spijkers SS’12
by Adam the Editor
The design duo behind Spijkers en Spijkers; twin sisters Truus and Riet created a collection of straight dresses, skirts and slouchy jackets in a range of materials and colours. The collection was said to be influenced by the tale of Scheherazade; the Queen and the voice of the fairytale, One Thousand and One Nights.
The designs in the collection were composed of elements of both Oriental and Arabic geometrics. The designers brought these two vastly different geometric styles together for SS’12.
Vivid hues including lime yellow, coral, oriental blue, crystal pink clashed brilliantly with sahara beige, ivory and black. Luxe fabrics including techno linen and silk twill added to the mix.
Overall I thought the collection was very wearable and very current. I loved the headwraps and the flapper-esque dresses harked back to an era of glamour and decadence. The loose-fitting jackets were nothing new but worked well with the pieces that they were paired with.
I’m not too sure where Spijkers en Spijkers is stocked in the UK but I would like to hope that there are some retailers out there who would like to give this brand a home. I think in the current climate, the brand could do well given its simple but on-trend looks that would suit most fashion savvy women.
I thought the colour palette was simple but when paired with the fabrics created a luxurious appearance that enhanced the overall feel of the show.
