Paul Costelloe SS’12

London Fashion Week kicked off today, opened as usual by Paul Costelloe.

For SS’12 Costelloe was said to be influenced by the 1962 Hollywood film ‘What Ever Happened to Baby Jane’. Elements of vintage Parisian chic could also be found in the collection which consisted of voluminous dresses and skirts.

The colour palette was kept simple with injections of coral, pink and green. Fabrics were layered in such a way as to create a luxurious, strong silhouette.

I really liked this collection. The pieces were very wearable and also very current. I thought that the colour palette worked well and didn’t distract from the design of the garments. There was almost a sportswear-luxe feel to the collection; a trend that seems to continue on and on. Frill detail created texture whilst pleating added dimension to simple pieces.

Overall, I thought the collection was stylish and fun whilst staying true to the heritage of the brand. I can see this collection having broad appeal especially for the season in which it is intended. The socks paired with strappy shoes was also a cute, feminine touch that helped to seal the deal for this brand…
